Working group formed to look at future of Goderich Airport

Goderich Mayor, John Grace, says the town, Huron County and the municipality of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh have formed a working group to look at the future of the Goderich Airport, which is located in A-C-W.

Grace says the airport hasn't received the attention it requires for a few years now, but it's one of the most important assets in the community.

"This is one of the most important assets in our community, not just in Goderich but across Huron County, whether it's the economy, whether it's social or whether it's health care services as an air ambulance."

Grace says the goal of the working group is to develop an operational and business plan for the airport and they've also hired consultant, H. M. Aero to help them determine if the airport is sustainable and viable. Grace says he believes a rural airport is very important in today's environment.

"A rural airport is really important in today's environment. More and more people are travelling by air, more and more business people and just-in-time delivery and even health care is critical and having a rural airport is critical."

Grace says the task force will include himself, the warden, the past warden, a representative from the county's Economic Development Board, three people from the business community, as well as Taylor Lambert, who will chair the task force.
