Local MPP comments on online vaccine booking

The Ontario government has launched an online booking system and call centre for those eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

“It has been one year since we have been fighting COVID-19, and I sincerely want to thank everyone on the frontlines fighting this battle. Our healthcare in Grey Bruce and Huron Perth has been second to none”, said MPP for Huron Bruce, and Minister of Government and Consumer Services, Lisa Thompson.

Thompson says the province is capable of vaccinating up to 150,000 people per day, but averages just over 40,000 due to the lack of a steady supply.

However, Ontario leads the country in vaccination rates, and has administered over 1 million doses to date.

“It’s a good day, now that we have hope and we’re booking appointments. But we still need to be diligent, and make sure we’re doing everything we can to keep transmission low until everyone has had their vaccination if they choose to do so”, added Minister Thompson.

Thompson adds the provincial government has little information about the supply of the Oxford-AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

She says Ontario is ready to ramp up their distribution plan immediately, but there is still uncertainty about the supply of doses the province will receive.

Anyone aged 80 and up can book an appointment online or by phone using the toll-free number 1-888-999-6488 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

If you live in Huron Perth, can book online or call 1-833-753-2098.
