Mass immunization centre ready to open in Kincardine

The Kincardine Davidson Centre is now home to one of three “hockey hub” vaccination clinics in Grey and Bruce, and it opens Friday.

Kincardine Mayor, Anne Eadie, says the town is glad to be a part of the rollout.

“It’s just been so wonderful. There’s many things about the pandemic that have been tragic, but to see people’s response, the creativity, and the innovation in this hub, the municipality of Kincardine is proud to be a part of it.”

Medical Officer of Health for Grey Bruce, Dr. Ian Arra, says in traditional vaccination clinics like doctor’s offices and pharmacies, vaccinators can administer up to 10 doses within an hour. With one of these Hockey Hubs, one vaccinator can dole out up to 90 doses per hour.

“It’s a patient centred approach, where the patient will stay in one spot and they would receive all the service they need. There is interest in it from different jurisdictions within Ontario, and outside Ontario, and they have been impressed to say the least.”

Depending on the supply of vaccines Grey Bruce has, all three vaccination hubs, in Kincardine, Owen Sound, and Hanover, could run simultaneously. However, Grey Bruce receives less than 4,000 doses per shipment, and there are a total of 35 vaccination clinics across the region.
