Local health units report fatalities related to COVID-19, vaccination initiatives to expand

Two local public health agencies are reporting more deaths related to COVID-19.

Huron Perth Public Health reported Monday that a resident of Seaforth Manor Nursing Home passed away, the 50th victim in the region of COVID-19.

There were also five new cases identified, three in Stratford, one in Perth East and one in North Huron. 21 active cases are currently being tracked.

Meanwhile Huron Perth Public Health, along with two other health units, are expanding the vaccination program this week.

Outbreaks continue at Seaforth Manor Retirement Home, the Stratford Jail, and one unidentified workplace. The outbreak at Seaforth Manor Long Term Care has ended.

In Wellington County, seven new active cases were identified Monday.

There are 24 active cases in Wellington County with one in hospital. And the death toll from the pandemic increased by one to 33. Outbreaks continue at Caressant Care Long Term Care in Arthur and Wellington Terrace in Fergus, where two staff members tested positive. And Royal Terrace in Palmerston continues outbreak protocols after one staff member tested positive. That outbreak was declared February 24.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is starting the second round of COVID-19 vaccinations for all long term care home residents this week.

And those in Community Health Care in priority categories and police and fire will be in the line up.

Residents over 80 will also be eligible and their primary care providers will reaching out to them directly.

So far over 7,400 doses of the vaccine has been administered in Grey and Bruce.

As for case counts, there are 12 active cases of COVID-19 being monitored with three added Monday, one in South Bruce and two in Grey Highlands.

There is also one outbreak, at Brucelea Haven Long Term Care in Walkerton. That was declared on Monday.
