Wellington County using libraries in COVID-19 vaccine help

Wellington County is using its library branches to help people in priority groups pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a county release, Warden Kelly Linton says staff at the 14 branches of the Wellington County Library will be available provide assistance.

People can call a Wellington County Library Branch to make an appointment to get help in completing the online pre-registration that is needed for the COVID-19 vaccine. Or help can be provided over the phone.

When pre-registering online for the vaccine, those in the priority groups will need address information, a cell phone number, email address, health card number, and for occupation based priority groups, information about position and role.

As of Tuesday, 6,240 vaccinations across the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph public health region have been completed, or 6.2%.

“The County of Wellington continues to find new ways to actively support WDGPH with the vaccine distribution effort,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “We have been hearing that some of our residents are having difficulty pre-registering online. Starting today, Wellington County Library staff at all 14 branches are available to help residents register online. Thanks to our County staff for once again stepping up to the plate!”

The priority groups are (as listed on the WDG Public Health site):

-Adults 80 years of age and older who reside in WDG -Adults who are part of the Indigenous community and also reside in WD -Long-Term Care and/or Retirement Home Staff -Essential Support Staff in Long-Term Care and Retirement Home -Essential Caregivers in Long-Term Care and High-Risk Retirement Homes -Adult recipients of chronic home care (Waterloo Wellington LHIN - Guelph and Wellington Residents -Adult recipient of chronic home care (Central West LHIN - Dufferin Residents -Healthcare workers* in the following settings (please see the Ministry Guidance for Prioritizing Health Care Workers for a more detailed breakdown of those eligible): Hospitals -COVID-19 Response Roles (e.g., Assessment Centres, outbreak response, COVID-19 immunization clinics) -Medical First Responders:

  • Community Healthcare workers serving specialized populations
  • Community Healthcare workers serving the general population
  • Healthcare worker in Congregate Settings
  • Healthcare services for indigenous populations
  • Laboratory services
  • Non-acute and rehabilitation and therapy

Officials say call volumes are extremely high and there could be some delays.
