Several new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Midwestern Ontario Wednesday

Two new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Wednesday by the Grey Bruce health Unit, both in Owen Sound. There are nine active cases in Owen Sound, and two each in Saugeen Shores, Hanover, and Southgate.

Grey Bruce also reported the region's second death late Wednesday afternoon. The individual was a woman in her 70s, who had been in isolation in hospital

Three people are in hospital. There are 15 active cases, and 35 high risk contacts. Public health said their COVID-19 Team contact tracing exceeds provincial targets with 100% of all cases contacted within 24 hours. There are no outbreaks.

Public health reported 3,855 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Grey and Bruce.  Public health reported that for week of Feb. 22nd, vaccinations will focus on Retirement Home residents and staff, EMS staff, Highest Risk and Very High Risk Health Care workers and Indigenous Community both on and off reserve.

There was one new fatality Wednesday due to COVID-19 in the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, where the death toll increased to 104. Eleven new cases were added, and six people are hospitalized. Five of the new cases were in Wellington, where there are 19 active cases and one hospitalization. Outbreaks continue at Caressant Care Long Term Care Homes in Arthur and Fergus.

Huron Perth Public Health reported one new case of COVID-19 Wednesday, and 14 active cases. Two people are in hospital. Outbreaks continue at both Seaforth Manor homes.
