Caressant Care Nursing Home COVID-19 outbreak declared over

Huron Perth Public Health Unit has declared the Caressant Care Listowel Nursing Home outbreak over, as of Tuesday.

No new infections have occurred over the past 14 days.

However, the Retirement Home is still in active outbreak with two active staff case but no resident cases and no further deaths.

“Along with health care partners in Huron and Perth, the Listowel-Wingham Hospitals Alliance recently provided support during an outbreak at Caressant Care in Listowel. We are pleased to see the end of the outbreak and remain committed to assisting health care providers in our community when requested,” said Karl Ellis, CEO of Listowel-Wingham Hospitals Alliance.

Caressant Care Listowel Long-term Care (LTC) home was declared in a COVID-19 outbreak on January 10, 2021.

In the Nursing Home, a total of 43 residents and 27 staff became infected with COVID-19 during the outbreak.

There were 14 deaths associated with COVID-19 on the nursing home side. There have been two deaths in the retirement home side.

“It has been a long, difficult road for everyone at Caressant Care Listowel,” stated Jim Lavelle, President of Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Homes Ltd. “We are so pleased to see this outbreak end and can’t thank our care partners enough for their support and expertise that helped guide us through this difficult time. I also want to express my sincere condolences to families and staff, who consider our Residents part of their extended family, on the passing of their loved ones.”

All visits to the home, except on compassionate grounds, remain suspended.
