Tourism Summit looks at outdoor amenities in Huron County

Acting Tourism Development Officer Rick Sickinger says a recent two-day virtual Tourism Summit examined what Huron County had to offer tourists that they wouldn't find in urban centres.

Sickinger says one of the biggest strengths of Huron County is its outdoor amenities.

"Of course the lake, the lake shore, the rivers, the many trails, the G2G Rail Trail," said Sickinger. "So much outdoor space and so much outdoor recreation opportunities in Huron County."

He noted proximity to urban centres is also an asset.

"You know, Huron County, we're in the back yard of a lot of urban areas. So we're well suited for the kind of vacation destination that people were looking for in 2020, but will probably be looking for again in 2021."

Late last year, Ontario announced it was creating a travel tax credit to help reinvigorate the province's tourism industry when COVID-19 restrictions are eased.
