Huron and Perth collectively have over 1,100 COVID-19 cases since start of pandemic

Huron and Perth counties have seen an accumulative total of over 1,170 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Huron Perth Public Health Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says as of January 25th, there have been 36 deaths linked to the virus, including 4 recent deaths related to the outbreak at Caressant Care in North Perth.

"Of the 43 long-term resident cases, 16 are active, 18 are resolved, and there have been 9 deaths. Of the 25 long-term care staff cases, 14 are active and 11 resolved. The total on the retirement side is 30 residents and 8 staff. Of these 30 retirement home cases, 10 are active, 19 resolved, and there has been one death. Of the 8 staff cases, 2 are active and 6 are resolved," said Klassen. "Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of the residents and staff during this difficult time."

Klassen the vaccination rollout continues.

"In terms of vaccines in Huron Perth, we are on track to complete all residents in long-term care homes and all residents in high risk retirement homes by this Wednesday, January 27th, for their first doses," added Klassen.

She adds all vaccines for Huron and Perth have been administered through the London site, but after Bruce Power's donation of an ultra cold freezer, HPPH will be ready to store the vaccine locally once shipments start arriving.
