County establishing entrepreneur fund

The Chair of Huron County's Economic Development Board presented plans for a new Huron Entrepreneur Fund at the last county council meeting.

John Marshall was joined by Steering Committee members Jim Lynn, John Kiser and Paul Nichol.

Marshall explains the Fund was formed out of a recognition that the biggest challenge facing new businesses or small businesses trying to grow in Huron County is the lack of capital. The board challenged Marshall, Lynn, Kiser and past board member, Martin Vander Loo, to find a solution.

That's when the Huron Entrepreneur Fund started.

"So we organized the Huron Fund that's administered through the Grand Bend Foundation and the vehicle is Community Futures Huron and those are the two processes that we grouped together to create the Huron Entrepreneur Fund," said Marshall.

The Entrepreneur Fund gives people who have enjoyed success in the business world a place to put a charitable investment and help the community and provide the capital for new entrepreneurs.

"The actual people that determine where the money goes, to whom and so forth, that group and we've a laundry list of great folks that want to be part of the Huron committee and we're just assembling that group as the final piece and we'll be up and running very, very shortly," added Marshall.
