COVID-19 death toll climbs in Midwestern Ontario

New fatalities have been reported in Midwestern Ontario due to COVID-19.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added 149 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. Eleven people are hospitalized, and 68 residents have died from the virus. 44 of the new cases added over the weekend were in Wellington County, and five people are in hospital in the county. The death toll has risen by one to 15.

There have now been nine fatalities at the Caressant Care homes in Arthur, eight of them in the long term care section. The ongoing outbreak has infected a total of 113 people at the Arthur facility. An outbreak also continues at Wellington Terrace near Fergus, where eleven staff members have tested positive. There have been no cases in residents there.

Huron Perth Public Health added another 36 cases of COVID-19 to the list of confirmed cases Monday. The number of fatalities has increased to 36 people, as four more fatalities occurred. Five people are currently in hospital with the virus. There are outbreaks at The Carressant Care Long term care and retirement homes in North Perth, along with Seaforth Manor Long Term Care. An outbreak also continues at the surgical unit at Stratford general hospital.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added another three cases of COVID-19 Monday, two in Owen Sound and one in Southgate. There are 24 active cases. T two people are in hospital and one of them is intubated. There are no outbreaks in Grey Bruce.
