Wellington Terrace staff member tests positive for COVID-19

During weekly surveillance testing for COVID-19 at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home, an employee tested positive. The employee is asymptomatic and in isolation at home.

Wellington Terrace staff immediately responded to the situation with direction from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) to limit further transmission of the virus. Families of Wellington Terrace residents have been notified of the situation.

Upon receiving the positive test results, Wellington Terrace worked with WDGPH to begin contact tracing those that may have come in contact with the infected employee.

Prior to this positive test result, Wellington Terrace was placed in facility-wide outbreak status which was set to expire on January 25. The facility-wide outbreak status has now been extended until February 4.

Wellington Terrace will continue to follow an extensive infection control processes that follows Ministry of Health directives and are guided by WDPGPH.

In addition to weekly surveillance testing, any resident or employee that shows even the slightest evidence of a health change is immediately tested for COVID-19.

In collaboration with WDGPH, Wellington Terrace is in the process of organizing resident and staff COVID-19 vaccinations. The first, of the two-dose vaccine, has now been administered to all residents wishing to be vaccinated.

Wellington Terrace staff vaccinations are underway and will continue once WDGPH receives more vaccine and is able to offer vaccination clinics.

To date, there has not been any COVID-19 positive cases in the resident population.
