Goderich taking the ice out of the Maitland Rec Complex

Goderich Mayor, John Grace, says they will be taking the ice out of the Maitland Recreation Complex. Grace says members of the town's Recreation Board recommended the ice be removed as a result of the current lock down and the uncertainty over when that might end.

Grace says they're also going to delay the Recreational Review that they had planned.

"We're going to delay it for a couple of months and, hopefully, we'll be able to engage the public in more of an open forum," Grace said. "Even if we had to wait till June or July. But we need the public's participation and you can't do it all by Zoom."

Grace said it's really difficult to make a decision on putting the ice back in because no one knows how long the lock down could last and how much of the season would be left.

"Say two or three weeks, we come out of this stay at home restriction, it might be and likely is that we're going to go back to red and that will still prohibit us from having a full engagement of the rink use," Grace said.

One possible solution would be putting the ice in earlier, maybe even in August, next season, but Grace said it's very difficult to make a decision with the uncertainties they're dealing with now.
