COVID-19 cases climb in parts of Midwestern Ontario

The number of new COVID-19 cases in midwestern Ontario varies depending on where you live.

Huron Perth Public Health added 51 new cases of COVID-19 to the list of positive cases Monday. 24 of those new cases were in North Perth and eight in Morris Turnberry. The number of fatalities grew to 26. Seven long term care homes, and three retirement homes are battling outbreaks. The most severe outbreaks are at Caressant Care in North Perth and Exeter Villa Long Term Care.

Meantime, Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported the Caressant Care Long Term Care and Retirement homes in Arthur recorded a total of 92 cases. There are four long term care and two retirement home outbreaks in Wellington County.  In all,  public health officials in Wellington County added 45 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, and and the number of fatalities due to the virus grew to eight in the county. Four people are in hospital, and there are 108 active cases.  Across the Wellington Dufferin Guelph region, there were 176 new cases reported over the weekend. There are 432 active cases, and nine hospitalizations.  58 people have died due do the virus.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added five new cases of COVID-19 Monday, located in Owen Sound, Brockton, Grey Highlands, Hanover, and West Grey. There are 41 active cases, and 115 high risk contacts associated with those cases. Two people are in hospital. 200 COVID-19 Vaccine doses have been administered to date. There are no outbreaks in Grey Bruce.
