Brockton to discuss budget early next week

The municipality of Brockton is working on completing their 2021 budget

Mayor Chris Peabody says all of the town's departments have worked hard to lower spending to cut the tax increase, but their policing contract with the OPP is a major concern.

"This term they've hit us with a huge increase in policing costs and that's what's attributing to all the tax increase in Brockton. I'm not very happy with the OPP contract."

Peabody adds the town launched a website for residents to visit and give their feedback, but since its launch in November there has only been 165 visits.

"I'm a little bit disappointed the overall numbers responding to the survey are not high. Perhaps in the future we need to find a better way of engaging the public."

There is still time for residents to offer feedback through BuildYourBrockton.ca.

Council will discuss the budget on January 19 and 20. Mayor Peabody says staff's opening tax levy is at 2.9%, and says that number is not likely to change much.
