Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP pleads residents to stay home

Grey Bruce Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker is pleading with residents to stay home.

Walker says the provincial State of Emergency Declaration is necessary as hospitals are at the brink of being overwhelmed.

He says many residents who need specialized health care must access the services in cities like Kitchener or London, but those services are at risk of being cancelled.

"And that truly then has severe consequences. Then it will people who suffer not necessarily as a result of the real issue of COVID, but the result of COVID and people disobeying and not adhering to (the order to) be safe, stay at home," he explained.

Walker adds the Emergency Declaration gives new enforcement powers to police and bylaw officers to ensure compliance.

"Those people that are flagrantly disobeying and not really being part of the group that are doing so well, then we can actually start penalizing and enforcing those who are continually putting all of us in jeopardy," Walker added.
