Updated at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2020:

The number of COVID-19 cases in Midwestern Ontario spiked Monday.

Huron Perth Public Health added another 41 cases of COVID-19 over Saturday and Sunday, with 106 active cases.  There was another fatality as a resident of Exeter Villa Long Term Care passed away due to causes associated with the virus. Five people are currently in hospital and 337 people are in isolation.

Huron Perth Public Health lists outbreaks in Long Term Care including Seaforth Manor, Braemar Nursing Home in Wingham, Exeter Villa, Greenwood Court in Stratford, Knollcrest Lodge in Perth East, and Wildwood Care Centre in St. Marys. Outbreaks at retirement homes include Caressant Care in North Perth and Livingston Manor in North Perth as well as the Exeter Villa retirement home.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says vaccines could arrive in Huron and Perth within the week.

"The staff within Huron Perth Public Health are so pleased that our senior residents are about to be vaccinated, so hopefully it will help prevent more illness," said Dr. Klassen. "I think over the next month or so, we are anticipating 2,000 to 3,000 doses so we should be able to cover our long term care home residents and hopefully staff and essential caregivers also associated with long term care homes."

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added nine new cases Monday, for a total of 53 active, and one probable active case.  There are 154 high risk contacts. Two people are in hospital.  The COVID-19 outbreak at Sepoy Manor Retirement Home in Lucknow has been declared over. There are no other outbreaks being reported in Grey or Bruce at this time. The announcement about vaccines arriving in Grey and Bruce was made Sunday.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public health reported another 192 cases since Friday, with a total of 489 active cases and five hospitalizations.  46 of the new cases were in Wellington, where there are 90 active cases, and two people are in hospital. There have been seven fatalities in Wellington.
