COVID-19 infections rise again in Midwestern Ontario

The results of holiday gatherings are starting to show.  The Grey Bruce Health Unit added 18 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra says over half of the new cases are people who acquired the virus through transmission during holiday gatherings with family and friends.

There are 59 active cases, and nine probable cases. They are associated with 178 high risk contact

One person is currently hospitalized and an outbreak continues at Sepoy Manor in Lucknow.

Four of the new cases were in West Grey and three in Owen Sound. There were two each in South Bruce, Hanover, Blue Mountains and Grey Highlands. And one each in Chatsworth, Huron Kinloss and Kincardine.

Huron Perth Public Health  reported twelve new cases of COVID-19 were added over the past 24 hours.  There are 96 active cases, down slightly from yesterday.  Howick, North Huron, Bluewater, Central Huron, Perth East and Perth South each added one new cases/ There were two in South Huron and four in North Perth. Four people are in hospital, and 351 are in isolation. There have now been 23 deaths after a fatality at Exeter Villa Long Term Care.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported another 41 cases of COVID 19 were confirmed Thursday. There are 434 active cases, and five people are in hospital. Wellington County had nine of those new cases, for a total of 73 active cases. There are two hospitalizations. .
