Chapman's Ice Cream helping out with local vaccination efforts

The COVID 19 vaccination effort in Grey and Bruce has been given a big boost from Chapman's Ice Cream in Markdale.

The company has purchased two ultra-subzero freezers required to store the vaccines once they arrive.

Vice-President Ashley Chapman says they've bought the units at their own expense.

He says he had to act quickly because they're not readily available.

"I didn't want to talk to anybody at the province or federal level. I just wanted to make sure we got these freezers before some other country did and I just wanted to make sure that we had something to use here in Grey and Bruce," said Chapman.

He says acquiring the freezers is his company's effort to help bring back some sort of normalcy.

"So many huge and important blocks of our society have been effectively shut down. We need to recover all these things and the only way we're going to do it is by vaccinating as many people as will get the vaccine and hopefully protect ourselves," added Chapman.

Chapman expects the freezers to arrive in Markdale next week.

It remains to be seen when the vaccines arrive and how they'll be distributed.

That will be up to provincial and local health officials.
