Rain, snow a possible mix through the weekend

A mix of rain, freezing rain and snow is expected this weekend across a large area of the region.

Environment Canada has released special weather statements covering Huron, Perth, Bruce, Grey and Wellington counties.

In Huron and northern parts of Perth County there is a potential for 20 to 30 mm of rain. It is expected to start Friday night and carry into Saturday with a mix of snow overnight.

Any excessive rain could create the potential for localized flooding.

In northern areas of Wellington, a fog advisory is out for Friday morning and 20 to 30 mm or rain is also expected overnight Friday into Saturday.

It is a mixed message for areas in Bruce and Grey.

While rain is expected in southern areas of Bruce County, there is a risk of freezing rain mixing in for Grey County. That includes Hanover, north to Owen Sound.

And over the Bruce Peninsula, including Sauble Beach and Tobermory, any rain could change to snow with the temperatures fluctuating. Amounts could range between 10 to 20 cm of snow through the weekend.

Temperatures through the region will drop to 1 degree tonight and up to 5 degrees tomorrow for a high. But then will fall back to around freezing for Sunday.
