Another milestone for new Markdale hospital project

Another milestone for the planned new hospital in Markdale.

Grey Bruce Health Services issued the call for tenders earlier this summer, and after a review of the bids, the board has now forwarded a recommendation to the Ministry of Health to approve the construction contract.

The Ministry of Health is expected to approve the bid within the next few months. Once the contract is awarded, the name of the winning bid will be publicly announced. The start date for the project will be determined by the construction company, and it is anticipated that site preparations will begin this spring.

“We are checking off the milestones for this project, and getting ready to transition from the years of planning to physically building our new hospital,” said Gary Sims, GBHS President and CEO. “I commend and thank all involved - the project team, staff and physicians, generous donors, and community members – your continued commitment and perseverance is why we are one step away from seeing shovels go into the ground.”

The new hospital is expected to cost approximately $70 million and will include 68,000 square feet of space and will include inpatient beds, a palliative care room, 24/7 emergency room with four exam and treatment areas, laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, physiotherapy, space for ambulatory care clinics, and two ambulance bays.
