New townhouses being constructed in Grey Highlands

An official sod turning ceremony in Markdale marked construction of a new residential development in the town. Sunfield Communities of Woodbridge is building 19 bungalow type town homes.

Company president, Larry Lecce, says the 19 units are already all sold but one. He says the success of the project is an indication of the population movement north from the G-T-A.

"The highway 10 corridor that's bringing people in from the Mississauga Brampton area, through Orangeville a few years ago into Shelburne after that and now this is just the next step," says Lecce.

Grey Highlands Mayor Paul McQueen says the municipality is pleased with further development in the area. He adds the Markdale district has much to offer.

"Outdoor recreation opportunities, we have four arenas here in Grey Highlands, lots of cross country skiing we have the Blue Mountains which offers alpine skiing," says McQueen.

The new town homes in Markdale are priced at between four and five hundred thousand dollars.
