President of recycling association optimistic of new guidelines

The president of the Bluewater Recycling Association says people involved in the industry are cautiously optimistic about the updates announced by the Environment Ministry on Monday.

Francis Veilleux said meetings with the ministry were held earlier this summer and while it's still early, he said that it looks the ministry was listening.

“We have just received the document, so we have reviewed it but it's still really, really new. But the content so far appears to be what we talked about and what was sort of originally presented back in June. So we're happy, we're cautiously optimistic I guess,” said Veilleux.

Veilleux said the consistency in materials they could collect throughout the province was important.

“Really it looks like we're going to be looking at having some extra materials added and it'll be the same materials across the Province, so it won't vary from municipality to municipality or program to program. The producers will be responsible for 100 per cent of the cost.”
