Saugeen Shores police charge man for multiple break and enters

Saugeen Shores police have charged a man for breaking into two different homes in Southampton over the weekend.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of a break and enter in progress. The occupants in the home told emergency dispatchers a person attempted to force open the back door of the residence. When officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the property.

Less than an hour later, around 5:15 a.m., police received another call of an attempted break-in at a home in the same neighbourhood. The dwellers reported that someone tried to gain access into their home by slicing a screen door and forcing the sliding glass door open.

Police quickly attended the scene and observed a suspect on foot at another home. Officers located a male in the laneway leading to the home where he was placed under arrest. A 36-year-old male of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering a dwelling, two counts of trespassing by night, one count of mischief, resisting arrest, and breach of probation. The man was held for a bail hearing and then remanded into custody.

Anyone with information regarding the offence, or a potentially related offence is asked to call the Saugeen Shores Police Service at 519-832-9200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
