Traffic study for South Huron intersection

Huron County has updated the traffic count at an intersection on the west side of Exeter.

Engineer Steve Lund said the county concluded the intersection of County Road 83 and Airport Line does meet the justifications for improved traffic control.

“What that means is we're looking at traffic signals or possibly a round-a-bout to help control the traffic flow as well as help reduce some of the accidents that are occurring,” said Lund. "Compared to traffic signals, they reduce collisions by roughly a third. Overall, they reduce serious injuries from collisions in the order of about 80 per cent, so that one of the advantages of round-a-bouts.”

Lund added that when round-a-bouts are installed, it's not unusual to see a slight increase in minor accidents while motorists get used to them, but he says over time those collisions decrease as motorists become more comfortable with them.
