UPDATE: Police hear from bridge jumper in Bayfield

Updated 9:25 a.m. on Thursday, September 17

Huron OPP was contacted by a man they were trying to get in contact with after witnesses spotted him jumping from the Bayfield River Bridge into the river.

Police learned Thursday morning that the jump was done as a stunt and he made it to the shore safely.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, police were called about a man that had climbed the construction scaffolding and dove into the river on the east side of the bridge. The witness told police they saw the man swim away toward the south side but the witness lost sight of the man and couldn't tell if he'd made it back to shore safely.

Huron OPP and the Bayfield Fire Department searched the shore on both sides of the river with help from a civilian vessel but they never found the man at that time.
