Strong winds prompt special weather statement for parts of southwestern Ontario

It could be a blustery end to the Labour Day long weekend for residents who live near Lake Huron and Lake Erie.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Grey-Bruce, Huron-Perth, as well as Elgin, and Simcoe-Delhi-Norfolk counties on Sunday afternoon. Wind gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour are expected beginning Sunday evening, continuing into Monday morning. The weather agency said during this time, minor damage to trees, and localized power outages are also possible.

Those living closest to the shorelines will likely experience stronger winds, meteorologists said the winds will be strongest along the shore of Lake Erie.
