Grey Transit Route begins service September 14

The Grey Transit Route is set to begin operation next month.

Grey County said on Tuesday that Route One will start September 14, running from Owen Sound to Orangeville along Highway 10. The service will be available Monday to Friday.

On September 23, the county said it will begin the second route which will run along Highway 26 from Owen Sound to the Town of the Blue Mountains. It will run Wednesday to Sunday.

The route on Highway 6 from Owen Sound to Wiarton begins September 29 and will run three days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The fourth route is on Grey Road 4 from Flesherton to Walkerton. It starts on October 5 and will run Monday and Friday.

Driver Seat Owen Sound is providing the 10 passenger vehicles for the GTR service. The county said Driver Seat has been operating safely during the pandemic, with sanitation procedures in place to protect everyone.

The vehicles will be able to receive electronic payments.

It will be free to ride on the GTR until October 31. Starting November 1, adults will pay $5, while students and adults over 55 will pay $4.50 to ride on routes 1, 2, and 4.

The fares for Route 3, Owen Sound to Wiarton, are $3 for adults and $2.50 for adults 55 and over and students.

Children under five will be free.

In the future, the service will link with other transit lines, offering a gateway to the greater Toronto area.

The service was possible thanks to a $1.85 million grant from the Ontario Community Transportation Program.
