Love your lake campaign starts

Saturday was 'Love Your Greats Day' in Ontario and Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Health Watersheds Technician, Hope Brock, says the focus this year is that the lake doesn't start at the shoreline.

Brock says they're trying to demonstrate that Lake Huron actually starts in backyards of homes and cottages.

"Here is essentially our back yard, our home, our cottages and the entire landscape and often when we think about our Great Lakes, we think about the lake, but in order to protect our lake we need to actually think about what we're doing on the landscape," said Brock. "Things like using a rain barrel or planting a rain garden. It can be using less fertilizer, it could be planting cover crops, keeping that soil covered up as much as possible."

People were encouraged to watch social media for daily #LakeHuronStartsHere posts, in honour of 'Love Your Greats Day'.

The posts highlighted positive actions people are taking.
