New cases of COVID-19 reported in Midwestern Ontario over Civic Holiday

Some municipalities in Midwestern Ontario have reported new cases of COVID-19 over the August long weekend.

On Sunday, Huron Perth Public Health reported four new cases of the virus bringing the total number of cases in the area up to 72.

According to the health unit, five of the most recent cases are in Perth East and linked to the same extended Low German-speaking communities. All cases in Perth East are self-isolating, and contract tracing is being done with the support of the leadership of the local Low German-speaking community.

The outbreak at Knollcrest Lodge in Milverton has been declared over. A follow-up investigation showed no evidence of transmission, and the previous positive result in the asymptomatic health care worker was deemed to be a prior infection or a false positive.

Grey Bruce Public Health has not reported any new cases since last Friday. As of Monday, there are a total of five active cases in Bruce and Grey, but none are hospitalized. An outbreak status remains in place at Trillium Court Nursing Home in Kincardine following an indeterminate test result in a staff member. The home has no active cases however, public health outbreak protocols require a facility to remain in outbreak status for a full incubation period.
