Municipalities waiting to hear how billions will be spent

Huron County's Warden and the Chair of the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus says they don't know at this point, how the $4 billion package of funding from the Federal and Provincial governments will be distributed among the Province's 444 municipalities.

The funding was announced at the beginning of this week.

Jim Ginn says he believes half of that money will go to municipalities that have public transportation.

"So the $4 billion, about half of it, will go towards municipalities that have public transportation. Their revenues have been decimated. Ridership is way, way, down, so $2 billion is earmarked for that," Ginn. "The remaining $2 billion isn't allocated anywhere specifically. We don't have solid information, but I can tell you that the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus will be lobbying that that be distributed on a per capita basis."

Ginn adds, all of the municipalities have costs so it seems fair that all of the municipalities get a share of that funding to help cover those costs.
