Ausable conservation authority puts together a five-year plan

The General Manager of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority submitted his five-year forecast at the board's last meeting.

Brian Horner said the forecast is a chance for staff to consider what projects they'd like to see done over the next five years. Horner added that the projects in this five-year forecast are very similar to those of past years.

While there are no specifics, the five-year plan does call for an increase in spending of the combined project and general levy of about 3.1 per cent.

"The majority of the projects that we see in the next five years are similar to what we've shown in the past. Now, in the past, what's happening is maybe we come to our annual budget and some of these items, we drop them off the forecast and we move kind of move them forward to another year," said Horner.

But funding is an unknown at this point and he says as COVID-19 affects the province and municipalities, Horner said there is a possibility of a decrease in funding.

"I think what we're going through right now is a difficult time. In 2021 we might not see any effects, but certainly from the Provincial and the municipal and, you know, whatever gets effected from what we're going through regarding COVID, somewhere along the line it could decrease," added Horner.
