Housing plan forming in Huron County

Huron County council is looking over guidelines on 'residential intensification' when it comes to different types of housing.

Senior planner Denise Van Amersfoort explains the purpose of the guideline is to take a look at how intensification can be introduced into existing communities in a way that is compatible and affordable.

She points out different forms of housing are needed in Huron County because of a shortage.

"In order to bring different units on line, they're going to be in different forms, we might see some more apartment buildings, some stacked town houses and the goal is that we want to see those new forms, or different forms of housing be integrated in a way that it's sensitively designed," said Van Amersfoort.

At this point the county has hired an urban design firm and a local architect to help them prepare the document.

Once a draft is in place, there will be a consultation period before bringing the plan to Huron County Council for approval.
