Goderich beaches stay open

The summer weather has encouraged a lot of people to head to the beach.

The Mayor of Goderich, John Grace, says they had a problem with over-crowding on the first Saturday of July, but the system has worked well since.

"We have a very strong campaign on social distancing. You'll notice that all of our parks and public works trucks are all decalled and signed for that. We also have a very strong campaign and a plan if things don't go right," said Grace.

Grace adds they do have bylaw enforcement people as well as regular OPP patrols on the beaches, but he says it's really about managing the beaches.

"We have staff down there all the time now, almost like ambassadors talking about not only social distancing, but about Goderich and about the beaches, so we are engaging in the public and the visitors that are visiting our community," added Grace.

And he says that approach has been very effective so far.
