Hanover police make an arrest in a weapons incident

Hanover Police Service arrested and charged a Hanover resident following a weapons incident.

On July 11th just after 8 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports of a shirtless suspect riding around on a bicycle in possession of a handgun and knife threatening strangers. The suspect had fled the scene when officers arrived, and West Grey Police Service assisted in locating the suspect after multiple sightings by residents.

Around 9:15 p.m., officers located the suspect behind some homes in the 400 block of 15th Avenue in Hanover and arrested him without incident. A search of the suspect uncovered two knives and a loaded air pistol that resembled the shape, colour and size of a common semi-automatic handgun.

A 45-year-old Hanover resident is charged with Pointing a Firearm, Uttering Threats to Cause Death and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

The suspect has been remanded into custody and is set to appear in Walkerton bail court, by video, on Wednesday.
