Group of young men attacked with a bat in Meaford

A group of young adults who had been setting off fireworks at the lake in Meaford were attacked with a baseball bat sending two of them to hospital.

Grey Bruce OPP said the group had just returned to a cottage on Sideroad 5 just before midnight on July 4 when three of them were confronted and attacked by a man with a baseball bat.

Three of them were hit in the shoulder area. Several windows of multiple vehicles were also smashed.

Two of the young men had to be taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The third victim did not need medical attention.

Police later identified and arrested a 72-year-old in Stayner. He is charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and three counts of mischief.

He is due in court on September 10.
