Campaign to end DGR proposal in South Bruce seeks referendum

The campaign to stop the high-level radioactive waste Deep Geological Repository (DGR) in South Bruce has gained new momentum.

The campaign “Protect Our Waterways - No Nuclear Waste” was pleased to see OPG end plans for a low/intermediate level radioactive waste DGR for the Bruce Power site.

However, “Protect Our Waterways - No Nuclear Waste” is still petitioning the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) plans to construct a high-level radioactive waste nuclear dump within the Municipality of South Bruce and is seeking a community referendum.

In a release, “Protect Our Waterways - No Nuclear Waste” said over 1,500 residents of South Bruce have signed the petition to date through both hard copy and online, and the online petition has gathered over 11,000 signatures from regional stakeholders.

Anyone interested in learning more about their petitions can head to the group's website.
