Group pushing for climate change talk

A group in Grey and Bruce is working to combat climate change and hopes their local MPP can help.

The Grey Bruce Climate Action Group has arranged a Zoom meeting with Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.

Spokesperson Vitold Kreutzer says they hope to initiate a positive dialogue with Walker in hopes of taking steps to combat climate change at a local level.

"We feel that democracy should be a daily adventure not just every four or five years. To have that contact with our MPP whose party forms that government and who has not always in the past been very careful or supportive of environmental positions," said Kreutzer.

He adds the group is not planning an adversarial approach in the meeting with Walker.

"We're trying to approach that part of him that touches on that humanity. That he's representing everyone in the riding not just the people that voted for him. He also represents the people that disagree with him," said Kreutzer.

Kreutzer says reopening society after COVID 19 presents opportunities to change the way things are done in order to prevent climate change.

Walker has agreed to meet with the group on Zoom Friday morning (June 26th), but the meeting has been postponed to Monday, June 29th. For more information call Vitold Kreutzer at 226-974-2094.
