Beaches in South Bruce Peninsula closed again

Beaches in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula have closed again.

According to a post to Facebook from Mayor Janice Jackson, the discussion started around Sauble Beach but council was worried if only Sauble was closed, it would push too many people to the smaller beaches.

Earlier this month, council opened beaches in South Bruce Peninsula under strict guidelines including social distancing with a plan to revisit the issue.

After a couple of weeks of being open, Jackson stated that they received complaints over the last two weekends and 91 tickets were handed out by municipal enforcement and officers.

One of the main concerns is the number of people that could swarm the beaches for the upcoming Canada Day with the ongoing pandemic.

She states the community has remained relatively virus-free and they want to keep it that way.
