The coastal stewardship coordinator for the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation says a bluff geo-hazard checklist released in 2014 has been updated and made more user friendly.
Hannah Cann said the checklist was created to help shoreline property owners assess the risk of erosion on their property along the bluff.
The update makes it easier for them to go through the checklist and determine where their property ranks and what risk factors they have on their shoreline.
"So it could help them determine the speed of erosion, what vegetation they could put on their property to help slow erosion, the different causes of erosion on bluffs," said Cann. "At the end of the document it has this checklist that you can go through each indicator of an unstable bluff, determine whether those indicators are present and if they are present, they can work through different best management practices and just get an idea of the risk factor."
Cann said the checklist is meant to provide information about the potential for erosion along the bluff and is not intended to inform what type of development is, or is not allowed, on the bluffs.
