Saugeen Shores Municipal Campgrounds will remain closed during the Victoria Day weekend, but today's announcement by the Province of Ontario means the Town of Saugeen Shores will see several changes to outdoor amenities in the coming days.
At this time, the Town is seeking clarification on the opening of parks and park amenities, as no reference to parks was included in documentation from the province, although Premier Ford mentioned these in today’s announcement.
The Town will announce changes to outdoor amenities when clarification is received from the province. Fishing from municipal property will be allowed when parks use is confirmed.
All of the beaches in Saugeen Shores remain closed by the order of the Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health.
As work to prepare harbours, boat launches and municipal campgrounds for use has only recently been allowed, further announcements related to their openings will be coming soon. However, all remain closed during the upcoming long weekend and walkthrough access is still prohibited.
The outdoor burning ban has been lifted in Saugeen Shores as of 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2020.
“The Fire Ban was well respected by residents of Bruce County and was very successful in reducing the number of calls firefighters responded to during the past six weeks,” said Bruce County Fire Coordinator Phil Eagleson.
Residents wishing to enjoy a small open-air fire must continue to follow all provincial orders restricting social gatherings of more than five people.
The Town has determined that there is no need to limit when residents can go to the Southampton Landfill. Beginning Saturday, May 16, any residents are welcome to bring their household garbage during normal operating hours Saturdays from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm and Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm.
Physical distancing measures will remain in place and only debit tap payment will be accepted.
As well, all amounts of brush will be no charge on Saturday, May 16. Up to 250 lbs remain no charge after Saturday as normal. For more information on the Landfill, visit SaugeenShores.ca/Waste.
