Homicide investigation underway after human remains identified as missing Hamilton woman

Human remains discovered in Southgate on Christmas Eve have been identified as the body of a missing Hamilton woman whose death has now been ruled a homicide.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the human remains were found in the area of Southgate Road 10, east of Highway 6 on December 24, 2019. Following a forensic examination, investigators have determined that the remains are that of Monica Chisar, who was reported missing by her family in September 2018.

The OPP is now investigating her death as a homicide, with assistance from the Hamilton Police Service Major Crime Unit.

Chisar was last seen in Hamilton on July 11, 2018 when she was dropped off in a parking lot at Barton Street East and Parkdale Avenue North, just after midnight. She was also known to spend time in the Greater Toronto Area and Kitchener.
