Huron approves community care team

Huron County's council has approved a Paramedicine COVID-19 Community Care Team.

CAO Meighan Wark said the first part of the project would allow paramedics to take on a more active role in the community to assist with the assessment and testing of patients with COVID-19 symptoms.

"Those who have been identified as having the symptoms, our paramedics could assist with having conversations and managing the symptoms of those who have been identified as having COVID-19," said Wark. "The justification or the reason for the project really is to help keep patients out of emergency rooms when they are directed to stay at home and if their situations continue to manifest and worsen."

She added the ultimate goal of the project is to help keep patients out of emergency rooms when they are directed to stay at home and if their situations continue to manifest and get worse.

The team will be in place until August 31, but that could be extended with the approval of county council.
