The municipality of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is taking a step towards the use of single-use plastics in the municipality.
Mayor Glen McNeil, explains they have a desire to help with the environment. "We are limiting the use of what we would term single-use plastics in our office and in the shed, and that would be water bottles, straws, stir sticks, disposable cups, cutlery and that sort of thing."
McNeil adds, he's a strong believer in leading by example. "If your municipality shows leadership by limiting the plastics that enter into our environment, whether it be the streams or land fills, that's what we're about to doing."
He says the hope is that if residents see the benefits of eliminating single-use plastics at the municipal level, they'll be encouraged to do the same thing.
