Recovery centres just about set up in Bruce and Grey

Recovery centres in Kincardine and Hanover for COVID-19 patients in Grey and Bruce are set to open this week.

Kincardine Mayor Anne Eadie said it's better to be prepared and not need them than to need them and not have them.

"The best scenario is we don't need it. However, it's too late to get it ready if all of a sudden we do need it. There's electrical work that's been done, getting the 50 beds, so I'm really quite pleased. I think we're well prepared now if we need it," said Eadie.

She added these locations will only serve as a place to recover and not as field hospitals.

"The patients that are recovering from the COVID-19 virus can have a place. They still need some hospitalized care, but not to the extent than can be provided in a hospital," added Eadie.

The P&H centre in Hanover and Davidson Centre in Kincardine will have 50 beds for patients recovering from the virus.

The centres are being funded by Bruce Power and are in partnership with Grey Bruce Public Health.

There is a temporary field hospital being set up at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.
