MPP says critical services need to be supported

The provincial government is providing $3.2 million to Bruce and Grey counties to help the most vulnerable people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker said the money will get to those who need it most.

"Things like shelters, food banks, charities, not-for-profits who deliver critical services and in some cases may even have to hire additional staff to keep up with demand so we knew that need was there and we wanted to provide some relief for them," said Walker.

Walker understands it can take time for the money to be dispersed but that's necessary to ensure it gets where it's needed.

"It has to be done accountably. We don't want money going where it shouldn't have gone so that people who may have needed it didn't get it and that has to be all process-driven. We regret that it takes any more time than it has to but it has to done properly," added Walker.

The funding will be administered by Bruce and Grey counties.

Walker said it's a fluid situation but they're doing the best they can.

"This is unprecedented. There is no gamebook. We're dealing with it as it evolves, nobody can predict it but we're trying our best," added Walker.
