South Bruce Peninsula enforcing orders

South Bruce Peninsula has hired an enforcement agency to make sure the province's Short Term Rental Order is being followed.

The order came into affect over the weekend, prohibiting people renting their properties privately or through a third party broker such as Air BnB.

South Bruce Peninsula said that under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, fines range from a maximum of $100,000 for an individual, $500,000 for a director or officer of a corporation and $10,000,000 for a corporation. There could also be up to a year in prison.

Town officials are also urging people not to travel back and forth between their homes and their seasonal homes. And there is a provincial fire ban through the Bruce Peninsula.

Two lines have been set up, one to report anyone contravening a Provincial Order at 226-910-1322 ext. 1. And the other is to report anyone in South Bruce Peninsula having a fire, a 226-668-3925.
