Property tax installments to be delayed in Kincardine, Saugeen Shores

Kincardine council has voted in favour of implementing changes to property taxes to help residents during the COVID-10 pandemic.

The municipality will be waiving taxes for the months of April, May, June and July, providing a 60-day grace period beyond the next tax due date of June 1. Also, the September 1 installment date will be deferred to October 1.

“This has impacted some people out of the blue within two weeks. It’s not something that people can plan for, so this gives them a bit of recovery time” said Mayor Anne Eadie.

She said they are still, however, the collectors for the school board and for the county.

“The municipality itself has dates they have to meet, so the province has said that the school board taxes can be defered this year and we are going to ask Bruce County to do the same.”

Saugeen Shores has announced they will suspend penalties on 2020 property taxes for 90 days from the original due date of May 21.
