Group ready to take over Bayfield arena July 1st

A spokesperson for the Bayfield Facility Initiative Team says they are happy to finally have an agreement with the Municipality of Bluewater covering the operation of the Bayfield Arena and Community Centre.

Sandy Scotchmer says they'll be taking over the building on July 1st, 2020.

"We will then be in the midst of making all of our decisions and following all regulations that we have to through this crisis that's going on right now. All buildings, everywhere in Bayfield will be affected and the arena will be affected too," said Scotchmer.

Scotchmer says the board members have done their homework, they're aware of the costs of running the building and they're ready to get started.

"You know, a good relationship was formed. I think the municipality and BFIT know that building inside out now cause we've gone through every aspect of that building in this leased document and I really do feel that there is a supportive team there at the municipality," added Scotchmer.

Bluewater will provide $100,000 per year for the arena and community centre with $65,000 earmarked for operating expenses and $35,000 for capital.
