Walkerton hotel owners supporting front line workers

The owners of a Walkerton hotel are doing their part to help during the COVID-19 crisis.

Andrew and Carolyn Windsor are offering significantly discounted rates to front line health care workers at the Best Western Plus East Ridge Hotel.

Carolyn said many guests are from out of the area coming to help at the Walkerton hospital or in long term care homes.

"Everybody's in a really tough situation right now, we're all trying to deal with it in our own way. This is just our way to support our front line workers and try to get through this together," said Carolyn.

She added many people taking them up on the offer are from the Walkerton area and are not comfortable going home and putting the health of their families at risk.

And the Windsors have also chosen to keep the hotel open when other facilities throughout the country have closed.

"We thought it would be better to ride out this storm together with the community instead of closing up shop and putting even more workers out of a job. This is just our way to help everybody stay in touch and stay connected," added Carolyn.

Andrew and Carolyn are originally from Newfoundland and have owned the Walkerton Best Western for just a year.
